Kurt Angle’s retirement in early 2019 ended one of the most impressive careers in wrestling history. The move from freestyle Olympic wrestling to sports entertainment saw Angle shock the world. No one expected him to pick up the art of wrestling as quickly as he did. Angle won the WWE Championship within his first year on the roster and instantly became one of the best in the world. WrestleMania has always been the biggest stage for superstars in WWE, and Angle showcased that in his career. The nine matches from Angle in WrestleMania all provided different results. Some were classics that will live in infamy forever. Others unfortunately missed the mark and probably shouldn’t have happened. We will look back to find out just what caused each result. These are all nine Kurt Angle WrestleMania, matches ranked from worst to best. 9 Kurt Angle vs Baron Corbin (WrestleMania 35) The worst WrestleMania match and (ironically) one of the worst high-profile matches of Kurt Angle’s career was his duel with Baron Corbin. For his retirement match at Wrestlemania 35, the WWE wanted Angle to face a heel. Not a bad idea, but the man management picked left a lot to be desired. Fans were livid that a better wrestler like John Cena didn’t get the spot for Angle to have a better sendoff. Simply put, the match with Corbin was a huge disappointment. Angle was too banged up to carry the younger star and it resulted in an incredibly lackluster match on the biggest stage. 8 Kurt Angle vs Kane (WrestleMania 18) Another wasted Kurt Angle match came at WrestleMania 18 when facing off against Kane. Angle was already in a strong position with the reputation as arguably the best wrestler in the world. Kane was a top-level star, but he didn’t have the in-ring excellence to keep up with Angle. The match got lost in the shuffle and is one that fans forget despite featuring two legends. Angle could have had a better match that night against a name like Steve Austin or Edge with greater importance as well. 7

From Big John Stud's body slam challenge to Andre the Giant in Wrestlemania I to Shawn Michaels and Razor Ramon's epic ladder match at Wrestlemania X and even today's modern contests, each of the highlighted matches features a full storyline and often recreations of pre-match interviews featuring actual audio from the event (Randy Savage's rant against Hulk Hogan before their match at Wrestlemania V is a highlight). It's clear from the amount of detail put into the mode that 2K did their research as everything from the managers and WWE personas are accurate to the time, sort of a 90s WWE Shop logo is spotted in the rafters of some of the early 80s Wrestlemania events for some reason. One of the reasons 30-years of Wrestlemania works so well is because of the "Wresltemania Moments" feature. Similar to last year's Attitude Era mode, each match has a list of criteria you'll have to meet to completely move on to the next event. You'll often be asked to do something that will initiate an in game movie sequence and quick-time event that mirrors the events of the actual match. It's neat to be able to recreate these unforgettable moments in WWE history and it's also helps to make the matches more authentically paced and realistic. There are times though when these Wrestlemania moments hurt the game, like when I was playing the Wrestlemania 4 match between Randy Savage and the Million Dollar Man. I went to the top rope to deliver Savage's classic elbow drop finisher and nailed it, but it then triggered a moment where I missed and forced the Million Dollar Man on to offense.Also new this year is The Streak mode which celebrates The Undertaker's undefeated streak at Wrestlemania. Visual Concepts’ WWE 2K24 is out on March 8th (March 5th for those who pick up the Deluxe and 40 Years of Wrestlemania Editions). With Wrestlemania right around the corner, it brings even more hard-hitting action and pro-wrestling drama to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC than last year’s title. It offers new features, modes, match types, weapons, stories and more, on top of some unexpected additions. Check out 15 of the biggest differences between WWE 2K24 and WWE 2K23 before the former’s launch. Showcase Modes John Cena was the highlight of last year’s 2K Showcase, which highlighted his biggest matches, as players controlled his opponents and attempted to take the franchise down. However, with WWE 2K24 arriving to celebrate 40 years of Wrestlemania, it makes sense that, like WWE 2K14, we would get a collection of some of the biggest matches from the event in history. Andre vs Hogan from Wrestlemania 3; “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs The Rock from Wrestlemania X-Seven – you know the deal. Which wrestler you control remains to be seen, though. New Match Types Last year’s edition was a bit barren with new match types – it added WarGames with 3v3 and 4v4 options and not much else. By comparison, WWE 2K24 offers Ambulance matches, where players battle to shove their opponent into an ambulance; Casket matches, where they try to throw each other into a casket and close the lid; Gauntlet matches, which involve pinning or submitting an opponent to bring the next one out; and a Special Guest Referee match, where a Superstar can act as a referee to others’ bouts. That means slow counting, no counting and attacking the one you don’t like. Rosters When WWE 2K23 launched, it offered almost 200 Superstars, from wrestlers to managers, though there were quite a few secret characters unlocked through the 2K Showcase and other modes. WWE 2K24 will launch with over 200 Superstars, with Superstars like Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch, Rhea Ripley and many more returning. How many secret characters it will offer remains to be seen, but fans can expect playable alternate versions of wrestlers to return and the addition of seven real referees. Expanded Backstage Brawl Backstage Brawl offered decent features in last year’s title, including the ability to fight backstage in certain match types. However, it’s limited to two players.
