ASIO takes care of latency (usually, with a moderate number of buffers (256??), but usually wants exclusive use of the audio device.Incidentally, that may be the issue. If something has the Windows driver locked, ASIO may not be able to get it's "exclusive lock" that it likes on the audio device, so it will never be ready? Make sure nothing is currently using the sound card when you switch to ASIO ??
