Read Critics Reviews Tom Long Detroit News Van Helsing obviously wants to be The Walking Dead with vampires, but it lacks that show's production values, cast and over-the-top imagination. Rated: C- Sep 27, 2016 Full Review Keith Uhlich The Hollywood Reporter LaBute's concerns with manipulation, miscommunication and abject cruelty -- and maybe, just maybe, a modicum of hope -- are well applied to a story of full societal breakdown. Sep 23, 2016 Full Review Mary McNamara Los Angeles Times With such a twist, similarities to virtually every vampire/plague-created monster tale are only to be expected and not, necessarily, a bad thing. Sep 23, 2016 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media Grim bloody vampire apocalypse show is not fun enough. Rated: 3/5 Oct 11, 2016 Full Review Jon Espino The Young Folks I'm hoping that changes in the future as the show begins to develop more of its own personality, but the tried-and-true technique will suffice for now. Rated: 6/10 Sep 29, 2016 Full Review Scott D. Pierce Salt Lake Tribune It, too, gets off to a slow start, but Van Helsing picks up in the second episode. It is also super violent and super gory. If you like that sort of thing, you might want to give this a chance. Sep 29, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews Rowan C A good first season and I love the vampire genre, so hopefully it stays like this. Vanessa Stewart who is played by Kelly Overton is the main character in the show with the ability to turn vampires back to human. She goes through quite a journey in Season 1 with losing Axel who is played by Jonathan Scarfe because the doctor who is played by Rukiya Bernard left him to die by shutting the door on him. Sam who is played by Christopher Heyerdahl was turned into a vampire and before, he was caught by Muhammad who is played by Trezzo Mahoro for being the murderer they were trying to find when they were staying at the hospital. We met some of the ancient vampires like Demetri who is played by Paul Johansson and he revealed to Vanessa that she was a Van Helsing. The season ended with two cliffhangers and one of them is Axel coming out of the farm as a vampire roaming the streets. The other one is Vanessa finding out that Dylan was turned into a vampire and she saw her right before it cut to Axel as a vampire. Overall, so far so good and hopefully it stays this consistent but I heard that the show gets bad. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/09/25 Full Review Stefan S The premise is interesting, but the show has nothing else
