However, I would like some more warble/tape style sound options. the wow/flutter just doesn't exactly do it for me. I think there could be some tweaking here. (I want that old school VHS tape warble. (not UA)It definitely holds its own in the broad sense. It seems the easiest to tweak to get to the optimum settings for a track. I love that you can choose the perfect in-between tape speed, for example. The delay is cool, and the flange sounds fantastic. Satin is flexible enough it seems you could throw it on a finished mix and really enhance key elements. I did just that on something rough which had VTM on the 2-bus, and after compensating for the VTM volume-boost I may end up keeping Satin on there. There is a clarity/depth in the lower mids I haven't quite matched on Satin, even though I'm preferring the overall tone more...I need to come back with fresh ears, and further tweaking.Worth noting: Roundtone sounds better than I remember. I find the controls a little counter-intuitive and the sound slightly less 3-D than Satin. It is supposed to be updated soon though.Anyway, it's probably worth it for the flange alone. Despite all the advantages, however, digital audio can easily sound too clean and impersonal. So musicians, producers and audio engineers have turned to traditional analog tools to bring some life back into overly clinical recordings. A world of non-linear behaviours, distortion, saturation and much more arises during tape recording and playback. Bringing these coveted characteristics of magnetic tape into the digital realm, in unprecedented quality—this is what Satin is all about. That tape sound depends on interaction between the various parts of a tape machine. Each contributes in one way or another—enhancing, reducing, combining—to generate the final sound. Satin models individual components and lets them interact in the same way. For maximum flexibility in sound shaping, Satin is a toolkit of alternative parts, not an emulation of a single machine. Build your own custom tape unit. The perfect final sheen for your mixdown, or “glue” multiple drum tracks together, decode old NR-encoded cassette tape, or misuse Satin for extreme effects. Delay and flange Delay mode lets you construct your own tape delay machine rather than emulate any specific model. A few clicks and you will be deep in echo in no time. Choose between two or four “tape heads”, adjust tape speed, select tape material, turn up the feedback, select signal routing, add some filtering. You can add motion to each individual “tape head” for a more organic feel. Tweak the Service Panel options and give your sound the characteristic shimmer of a classic tape echo. Flange mode emulates the special technique of running identical recordings on two tape machines, then lightly pressing a finger on the reels to move the recordings in and out of phase. It was a skill that required patience and light touch. Luckily, Satin now makes it much easier and faster, all at the press of a button. For longer flanging effects or more precise control you can use the slider, either manually or automated. I've been trying to learn more about some physical modeling for (e.g.) plate and spring reverbs, but I'm assuming that you don't necessarily mean physical modeling when you describe it as derived from physics?btw, I'm trying Vastaus that some peeps recommended here and it passes my high end harshness test with flying colors. It may be the secret sauce I need to slather onto MAL-2 from Acustica, which is a problem child but which is the most high freq heightening beast I've ever encountered when i put it in dual mode and boost the HF threshold. After trying lots of HF softeners after MAL-2, the most useful to date is U-he Satin using decoder only (B-type or uhx Type II) and adjusting the other settings to get a smiley frequency response in the gui that is ever so slightly tilted for reduced gain on the HF and increased on the LF. Now, Vastaus is sounding ever so nice in this regard, it's allowing the MAL-2 HF structure to come through but taming the harshy vibes.
