If you’ve purchased one of the paid versions of SpectraLayers, Elements or Pro, you’ll have access to the expanded feature set of these in the ARA version. SpectraLayers Pro 11 SpectraLayers Go includes a very impressive Unmix Song feature. This allows vocals to be separated from music for rebalancing, processing or complete removal. I recently used this feature to get rid of some unwanted speech from a podcast intro. When using the Unmix Song process, three quality options are available; Fast, High and Extreme. As you might expect, fast trades quality for speed and extreme takes the longest while offering the best audio quality. If you’re willing to wait a little longer, this option gives exceptional results, doing a great job at differentiating vocals or dialogue from music.Once processed, you’ll have layers for Vocals and Other. The separation in SpectraLayers is lossless in the sense that nothing is actually removed as a result of the separation. Playing the layers together will be the same as playing the original, unprocessed audio. The WaveLab department at Steinberg have been very busy indeed...While WaveLab is well‑established as leading audio editing software, audio formats and delivery platforms are constantly evolving, as are the demands placed by users on their software tools. Thankfully for WaveLab’s loyal following, it would appear that Steinberg are not resting on their laurels, on paper at least; WaveLab Pro 11 looks like it delivers a bumper bundle of new and improved features. This follows some impressive advances in the two most recent iterations of SpectraLayers Pro and, if your audio production work happens to span the broad catalogue of Steinberg applications, I think it is a good thing to see both WaveLab and SpectraLayers getting their share of the development attention. So, with a long list of ‘new for 11’ with this WaveLab Pro upgrade, let’s get started.Ride The WaveOver the 25 or so years of WaveLab existence, a diverse user base have joined the ride. This includes musicians, audio editors in traditional radio, TV and film broadcasting, mastering engineers, audio analysis and audio forensics. However, the needs of those users are always changing while, at the same time, the potential user base has expanded. For example, for those working in film, the ability to work with an ever‑expanding set of multichannel audio formats is important. For mastering engineers (or musicians doing their own mastering), audio analysis and options for meeting the different loudness standards set by a diverse suite of streaming platforms have become critical over recent years. Independent podcast producers represent a massive new potential user base and need a software environment that suits their workflow and provides export formats targeted to their different broadcast platforms.Existing WaveLab users can be reassured that Steinberg have not reinvented the wheel with Pro 11 and its core features and major workflows (covered in many previous SOS reviews) remain intact. The ‘new and improved’ in v11 contains an interesting mix of things that will appeal long‑standing and potentially new users alike; I’ll focus on these new features here.Improve Your VisionWaveLab has always provided a range of different audio metering/analysis tools but Steinberg added a. This is a light version of Steinberg’s popular mastering software, WaveLab Pro. As with SpectraLayers Go, WaveLab Go can also be accessed by right clicking clips on the Pro Tools timeline. This provides several useful features… WaveLab Go Something which I’ve found to be very handy when working on podcast episodes are the loudness normalisation features. From the Process tab in WaveLab Go, click the dropdown next to Loudness and you’ll see presets for a number of popular delivery platforms including Amazon Music, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, EBU R-128, Deezer, Netflix, Spotify, Tidal and YouTube. Clicking on any of these will adjust your audio to the integrated loudness target level for that platform. WaveLab Go also offers other types of processing such as time stretching, pitch shifting, pitch bend, reverse, polarity inversion, DC offset removal, swapping stereo channels, envelope adjustment and more. Add to this the spectral editing features and you’ve got a very capable set of features which adds nicely to the functionality of Pro Tools. If you purchase a WaveLab Pro license, the ARA version will now have access to an even wider set of features from the standalone software. In the video below, I use WaveLab Go to adjust the loudness of 3 podcast episodes to hit the Apple Podcast standard of -16LUFS.If you like what’s on offer in Steinberg SpectraLayers Go and WaveLab Go, it’sSpectraLayers Pro 10 SpectraLayers Elements 10 - Steinberg

Hi there, just saw the Pro Tools update list and the iZotope Spectral Editor ARA support, which requires RX 11. I'm in RX 10 now, and I'm wondering if anyone with RX 11 can confirm that if RX 11 supports Spectral Editor ARA in Reaper too? Thanks. 06-20-2024, 11:37 PM #2 Human being with feelings Join Date: Jul 2021 Location: Swiss Zürich Posts: 1,171 06-20-2024, 11:45 PM #3 Human being with feelings Join Date: Jan 2024 Posts: 27 Sad, but thanks. Audio enthusiasts have long awaited (AI-driven) software that will restore dynamics to compressed recordings, without distortion or other artifacts. That is, a plug-in or standalone app-with a small to moderate learning curve-dedicated to repairing this especially horrid and all too frequent kind of sonic damage, which producers and musicians have deliberately imposed on loads of otherwise well recorded music, at least since the early years of Motown, Brian Wilson, the British Invasion and sadly ever since. the source material and functionality of countless medium and high end home audio systems have long been computer based, such restoration software from WAVES, UAD, Todd-AO, Steinberg (Spectralayers), Sonnox, Magix (Soundforge), Audacity, Adobe Audition, Acon Digital, and other leading audio software vendors is long overdue. And with Intel poised to release their line of AI accelerating Arrow Lake processors by year's end, now would be the ideal time to begin development of this unique product for the long vibrant computer audiophile market. Please make this very special software happen very soon.Thank you.Comments
