360 you may have laying around The downloads page provides a complete list of currently supported platforms and installation instructions, including quick and easy YouTube videos. Is RetroArch the best way to emulate games?RetroArch works off of the open-source Libretro API (a programming standard), which means all of the emulators booted up through RetroArch need to conform to this standard. Work often needs to be done to emulators to make this happen, and depending on the emulator in question, this can mean that older versions of an emulator are all that's available through RetroArch.(Image credit: RetroArch)This tool can make emulation more convenient, but it doesn't remove the usual incompatibilities and glitches you may encounter when running games on unofficial software. Emulators will always improve over time, adding compatibility for more games and smoothing out performance issues, so running the latest build of RetroArch is the best way to ensure the best performance. If an emulator you're using in RetroArch is giving you problems, support from the emulator creators might not be easy to obtain. That can be the case with MAME, an arcade-emulation suite that has undergone heavy revisions since the last build that's available on RetroArch. Thankfully, everything, including supported cores for emulated platforms, is easily updated through RetroArch when updates are made available. How do I know which core to use to run a game?Emulation is always going to require a little more legwork on the player's part to get things going, and this is still true for RetroArch. If a game isn't running, you can check the RetroArch forums or the forums from the emulator's official site and see if the problem is a known issue or something affecting only your setup.MORE: Best PC Game ControllersIf you know your way around emulators, you'll probably find the ones you like

RetroArch - Download Cores and Content - YouTube

I have the free version of Launchbox 12.14 and I am looking to change RetroArch to load the core MAME (Git) which was identified by RetroArch as the core that loads the MAME roms I am trying to use. Currently, I have to open RetroArch and load the rom, followed by selecting the Mame core ARCADE (MAME-current). I cannot use the process of TOOLS – MANAGE – EMULATORS – RetroArch – EDIT – Associated Platforms – CORES – and then on the drop box able to find the MAME (Git) core. I found on a 2020 forum post that a suggestion was to select the BLANK box and type the core .dll file name into as what is given in RetroArch Core Information, but I am not able to put custom text into the drop box’s last selection choice box. You can only select what the drop box gives you, and there is no MAME (Git). I have searched my RetroArch folder of .dll cores and cannot even see a reference to “MAME (Git)”, so where exactly is this core and how to I point LaunchBox to use it on my Arcade category/platform? Is this only available in the PAID LaunchBox?

"Load Core."Select "Download Core." You'll see a list of available emulators (cores). Here you'll need to determine which games you'll be playing within RetroArch. Most of these downloads are very small in size and range from only a few KB to a few MB. You'll be able to come back here and install as many as you please, as often as you please, so don't feel the need to download more than necessary at this stage.Personally, I prefer these cores for these consoles:Nintendo:GB/GBC: GambatteGBA: gpSP or mGBAVirtual Boy: Beetle VBDS: melonDSNES: Nestopia or FCEUmmSNES: Snes9x CurrentN64: ParaLLEl or Mupen64PlusGameCube/Wii: DolphinSega:Master System/Genesis/CD: Genesis Plus GX32x: PicoDriveSaturn: YabaSanshiro or Beetle SaturnDreamcast: FlycastSony:PlayStation: DuckStation, SwanStation, or PCSX ReARMedPlayStation 2: PCSX2PlayStation Portable: PPSSPPStep 3: Importing Your Legally Acquired GamesThis section demonstrates how to add your game ROMs to RetroArch. We'll use Game Boy Advance (GBA) games as an example, but the process is nearly identical for all other systems. Whether you're adding PlayStation games, Sega Genesis games, or anything else, the steps are essentially the same. What is a ROM?Before we begin, let's clarify what a ROM is. In this context, a ROM (Read-Only Memory) is a digital copy of a video game cartridge, disc, or other game media. Essentially, it's the file that contains all the game data, allowing you to play it on an emulator. Think of it like this: instead of inserting a physical cartridge into a console, you're loading a ROM file into the emulator (which acts as the console).Important Disclaimer:Downloading ROMs for games you do not own is illegal. This guide assumes you have legally acquired copies of your games and are creating backup ROMs for personal use. Please be aware of and comply with the copyright laws in your region.Example: Importing GBA GamesDownload the "mGBA" core (or the core for your desired system).Import Games:Go to "Import Content" on the Main Menu.Select "Scan Directory."Locate the folder where your ROM files are stored (e.g., your GBA ROMs).Select "Scan This Directory."RetroArch will scan the directory and add your games to the menu. This might take a few seconds or minutes, depending on the size of your game library. Once the scan is complete, you'll see your games categorized by console on the XMB menu. Here you'll see all of your games categorized by the representative icons of their consoles. At this point, you could theoretically just find the game you'd like, select it, and in most cases, begin playing. However, we'll go through a few optional things we can do to improve the experience beforehand.Step 3.5: Adding a Hotkey (optional)Sometimes you'll want to open up RetroArch while in-game to change some settings on the fly, create a quick save, or even load another

Setting Up RetroArch for N64 EmulationEmulating Nintendo 64 games on modern systems can be a complex but rewarding experience, especially with the powerful frontend RetroArch. This guide will walk you through the step-by-step process of setting up N64 emulation in RetroArch, ensuring you get the best performance and accuracy.Installing RetroArch and Downloading the N64 CoreInstall RetroArch: First, ensure you have RetroArch installed on your system. You can download it from the official RetroArch website.Download the N64 Core: Open RetroArch and navigate to the "Load Core" menu. Select "Download Core" and look for the Nintendo 64 entries. You have two primary options: Mupen64Plus and Parallel 64. For this guide, we recommend using Mupen64Plus-Next due to its good all-round compatibility and performance.Configuring Video DriversSelecting the Video Driver: To ensure optimal performance, you need to configure the video driver. Go to the "Settings" menu, then select "Video" and choose the "Vulkan" driver. This driver provides better performance and compatibility for most cores.Core-Specific Driver Settings: If you only want to use the Vulkan driver for the N64 core and not other RetroArch cores, you'll need to change this setting with an N64 game open and then save a core override config file.Adding N64 Games to RetroArchImporting Games: In the main menu, go to "Import Content" and select "Scan Directory." Navigate to the location of your N64 ROM directory and scan it. This will create a Nintendo 64 menu entry containing your game collection.Associating the Core: Right-click on the N64 playlist, go to "Associate Core," and select Mupen64Plus-Next to ensure that all N64 games use this core by default.Fine-Tuning Emulation SettingsCore Options: Open an N64 game and access the quick menu. Navigate to "Core Options" to fine-tune emulation settings. Typically, you'll need to change both the RDP and RSP plugins to "Parallel" for optimal performance.Graphics Settings: For games that may experience graphical glitches, you can switch to the Mupen64 core. Ensure the resolution is set to 320×240, and consider using an overlay with CRT effects for a more authentic look.Enhancing Graphics and PerformanceResolution and Anti-Aliasing: To enhance graphics, you can increase the render resolution and anti-aliasing. For example, increase the native resolution factor to four times and the MSAA anti-aliasing to eight. This will significantly improve the visual quality of your games.Using Shaders: RetroArch allows you to use shaders to enhance the graphics further. You can use the Mega Bezel Shader for an authentic retro look. Download the shader from the provided links and apply it through the RetroArch menu.Troubleshooting Common IssuesGraphical Glitches: Some games may experience graphical glitches. If this happens, try switching to the Mupen64 core and adjusting the resolution to 320×240. Also, ensure that your other cores are locked to prevent conflicts during updates.Performance Issues: If you encounter performance issues, check that your video driver is set correctly and that you are using the Vulkan driver for the N64 core. Also, ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements for running RetroArch smoothly.Final Steps and Additional TipsSaving Configurations: After making changes, save

IntellivisionRetroArchPublished:February 20, 2023Last Updated:September 19, 2024RequirementsInstall RetroArch – Download RetroArch HereIntellivision BIOS Files – You will need to obtain two required BIOS files, named exec.bin and grom.bin.Have at least one Intellivision game ROM ready to test – These are usually .int .rom or .bin files. To play games, you will ideally need a controller – You could use keyboard controls, but you’ll have far more fun using a controller! The 8bitdo Pro 2 Bluetooth Controller is an excellent all-around controller for emulation and can also be connected by USB for even better performance in terms of latency.Step 1 – Download The FreeIntv Core In RetroArchFirst of all, you will need to download the FreeIntv core in RetroArch.Load RetroArch, then select ‘Load Core’ and scroll to ‘Download a Core’.Next, move down the Core Downloader list until you get to ‘Mattel – Intellivision (FreeIntv)’. Select this and the FreeIntv core will download and install.Download The RetroArch Intellivision Core – FreeIntvIf you are using an existing installation of RetroArch, be sure to also go back to the main menu, scroll down to ‘Online Updater’ then select ‘Update Core Info Files’ and ‘Update Databases’.This will update all key files and databases in RetroArch limiting the potential for any issues.Step 2 – Copy Intellivision BIOS Files To ‘System’ FolderThe FreeIntv core requires BIOS files to be in the RetroArch ‘system’ folder which can be found in the RetroArch installation folder.Simply search online and download two files called exec.bin and grom.bin. then copy them into your system folder as demonstrated in the image below.RetroArch FreeIntv Core Intellivision BIOS FilesStep 3 – Select An Intellivision Game To PlayAnd that’s all there is to it! You are now ready to load your first Intellivision game in RetroArch using the FreeIntv core.So now go back to the main menu and select ‘Load Content’.Then navigate to where you are storing your Intellivision ROMs and select the game ROM you wish to play.Select An Intellivision Game To PlayThe game will now boot up and you are ready to play.FreeIntv RetroArch Core Playing Star Wars Empire Strikes BackStep 3 – FreeIntv Core SettingsThere
