It’s also one of the best in the genre that’s also in first person.#9: “Trove” (2015)Trove is a sandbox MMORPG, reminiscent of Minecraft, that debuted in 2015. It was later ported to PlayStation and Xbox and Switch, making one of its strongest qualities, its availability... And its game... Truly, it's the game, I just wanted to emphasize the availability. Unlike many MMORPGs, Trove translates seamlessly to consoles, offering a straightforward yet surprisingly captivating experience. It's an excellent 'first MMO' for younger players and has garnered strong support from its community. Good for the kids, good for the adults.#8: “Rift” (2011)As you might expect, Rift is a classic MMORPG that shares similarities with World of Warcraft. Initially, like WoW, Rift operated on a subscription model before adding a free-to-play option with limited features. One might wonder why players would choose Rift over WoW. While Rift does not offer many distinguishing features from the genre giant, some players appreciate its intensity and the extensive range of skills that add more depth to the gameplay. It’s entirely possible for gamers to enjoy both World of Warcraft and Rift, as both are outstanding games in their own right.#7: “Star Wars: The Old Republic” (2011)With the third-highest budget of any video game ever produced, Star Wars: The Old Republic excels at delivering deep and enjoyable RPG elements on a grand scale. Players can choose to be a lightsaber-wielding Jedi or a commando, embarking on unique journeys tailored to each character class. Like many of the games on this list, it continues to hold relevance in today’s MMORPG landscape. Overall, Star Wars: The Old Republic is an outstanding MMORPG that effectively weaves an engaging Star Wars narrative.#6: “Destiny 2” (2017)I promise, this is the only entry on our list that is debatable as an MMORPG, but unfortunately, there is a debate to be made. At even the moderately high level it takes cash and commitment. The new player market only means this will be worse because this basically invites bots to drive the marketplace through the roof. So in the past where you could negotiate trade items between player to player interaction this is now marginalized by the fact that you can passively list items at an overly inflated price hoping that some noob bites which is the sole reason why most "aution house" game economies are destroyed by bots and gold sellers. I should stop writing when I'm drunk... Ironically the building part is currently being ignored for a long time. It is more of a voxel MMORPG at the moment. The gameplay is very simplistic. Classes only have a few skills, not much options. Exploration wise, it's not very good. Mostly you just chase dungeons which are easy to find and there's isn't much to discover. Well, technically, you can do them with friends, but there's no content that actually requires a group. I played briefly and if you don't like building I would pass. For me it blends Minecraft and RPG type game and does neither very well. However, people who like building and social aspects of fooling around with friends and family love this game. They also introduce new content on a fairly regular basis. If you like the Minecraft type of play you will probably like Trove. I wouldn't say its a serious mmo but its fun!
