Director handles it well (to my experience). It also works well with FLV files ( has a very good tutorial on adding FLVs to Director). I have used it when I have needed to get away with better animations than what I feel confortable making in Director. And you can always program your AS2 to call out behaviors on your Director project. I have done it for simple "baOpenFile"...
