Jun 8, 2006 3:09 AM in response to DualShock hasnt that problem begun when you updated firmware? Jun 8, 2006 3:09 AM in response to DualShock i have a macbook pro 15' 2.0Ghz and after i updated the firmware to 1.0.1 my cpu stuck at 1ghz too :s but before update, the speed of the cpu at full load jump normaly to 2.0ghz and in idle 1.5ghz i don't know if is a bug of coreduotemp or if is a problem with my machine because before update my macbook the temperature was higher and i could hear the coolers :s sorry my english 😍 MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.6) 2.0Ghz, 1GB Ram, 256mb GDDR3 Jun 8, 2006 3:55 AM in response to kOld Wow, if the firmware update solves the heat problem by limiting the cpu speed this update sounds like a real hoot! ^_^ Jun 8, 2006 4:20 AM in response to DualShock Are you running without your battery in the machine? If so, then this is a known problem. Install the battery and try again. Jun 8, 2006 9:48 AM in response to Macbook Semi-Pro Are you running without your battery in the machine? If so, then this is a known problem. Install the battery and try again. Have you been spying on me??? 😉 It just so happens that I'm running it with only AC, and no battery installed. I'll test that out when I get home. Jun 8, 2006 9:56 AM in response to DualShock With no battery in the machine your computer will throttle down to 1GHz. Why you ask? I don't know, that's just the way it is. ~David Jun 8, 2006 5:20 PM in response to DualShock There's no good reason not to leave the battery in the computer when you are running on AC power. The battery will not be harmed and it's lifetime won't be measurably affected. There are good reasons to leave the battery in the computer when you are running on AC power: * The battery acts as a UPS, so you won't lose data if the power goes off. * The power plug can be knocked off easily. See above. Jun 15, 2006 9:42 PM in response to DualShock Just wondering though, is it really throttling the CPU to 1 GHz when no battery is installed, or is it just a bug in CoreDuoTemp? it's really running. By default, Activity Monitor will only so you My Processes but you can change that in the dropdown list at the top to All Processes or something else. However, if you were taking your value from the CPU tab down the bottom, this settings shouldn't have any effect.Having said that, mine skips about quite a bit and it's difficult to compare the two side-by-side. Do you have them open at exactly the same time? #4 So are you still getting a significant discrepancy? I think the best time to gauge this would be under heavy load since under light load the CPU cycles flick up quite quickly for background tasks etc. If you rip a DVD/CD or something like that which will load the CPU, see whether they're both getting roughly the same readings over a little amount of time. #6 Sorry mate, I dunno what it is. I'd believe Activity Monitor over CoreDuoTemp though. Just out of interest, are you running this from an administrator account?

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. Anyone else seeing this behaviour? I'm believing CoreDueTemp stats, which may or may not be valid after OS update but the machine is no longer throttling back to 1.5, 1.67, 1.83 as it was before and my battery life indicator is certainly showing that the power on hours wil be lessened. EDIT: CPU is showing low single digit % usage in both CoreDuoTemp and Activity Monitor so it's unlikely to be a runaway process. I've tried the usual suspects (reset SMC, reset PRAM and reset engery saver settings) MacPro 2.66GHz, Mac OS X (10.4.7), 2GB, 2x250 WD RAID0, Apple 17" Cinema Posted on Oct 3, 2006 10:23 PM Posted on Oct 3, 2006 11:05 PM Don't believe the CoreDuo Temp stats. I'm using a recent update of Hardware Monitor, which provides more and, in my opinion, more reliable information. My CPU cores are running at pretty much the same frequencies as in the past. And I've gotten 3 hours 48 minutes of work (AirPort on, Bluetooth off) on battery today. That's in line with my past experience. You might want to do a battery calibration. After 10.4.8, CPU speed locked at 2.17GHz on battery?
