It’s important to remember the ongoing controversial statements by the creator of the Harry Potter franchise. CBR supports the hard work of industry professionals on properties fans know and love, and the wider world of Harry Potter that fans have adopted as their own. You can find CBR’s continuing coverage on Rowling here. The Harry Potter series is known for its many lovable, relatable, and entertaining characters, many of whom have become pop culture icons over the years. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are considered to be some of the best in both literature and film and will continue to impact Wizarding World admirers for years to come. Some Harry Potter characters, however, seem to have rubbed fans the wrong way for one reason or another and frequently get listed as the saga's most hated characters. Whether it is because they are particularly annoying, odd, or simply terrible people with no redeeming qualities, some Harry Potter characters will never manage to get on the fans' good side. Updated by Jordan Iacobucci on March 2, 2024: The Harry Potter franchise is officially coming back in a brand new Max series adapting the books in greater depth than the original films. However, for many fans, the eight original Harry Potter films will forever be the best adaption of J.K. Rowling's books. As beloved as the film franchise was, many of the characters consistently drive the fanbase crazy, standing out as the most hated personalities in the wizarding world of Harry Potter. 20 Mundungus Fletcher Was An Immoral Coward Related 15 Most Dangerous Magical Creatures In Harry Potter While Dobby the house-elf is wholesome and friendly in Harry Potter, many magical creatures are as dangerous and powerful as Voldemort. Actor Known For First Appeared In Andy Linden Oliver Twist Order of the Phoenix Despite being a member of the Order of the Phoenix, Mundungus was selfish to a cruel extent. He cared more about petty theft and profiteering, even during dark times like Sirius' death. He was never interested in helping Harry, Ron, or Hermione, and only became a part of the Order because of his debt to Dumbledore. Mundungus's worst crime was abandoning Mad-Eye Moody during the Battle of the Seven Potters, which led to the death of the Auror. Mundungus had no remorse for his actions either, which made fans find him annoying and hateful, though he isn't quite as hated as certain other pure evil characters in the Harry Potter franchise. 19 Barty Crouch Jr. Was A Purely Evil Death Eater Actor Known For First Appeared In David Tennant Doctor Who Ahsoka Good Omens Jessica Jones Goblet of Fire There was no redeeming quality about Barty Crouch Jr., who seemed to. Ronald Weasley at the quidditch pitch getting ready for tryouts The Quidditch tryouts,[1] also known as trials,[2] were the formal processes of forming the school Quidditch teams for the coming seasonal year. These tests took place near the start of Hogwarts school year, where students could have their merit tested for a place on their House team. Tryouts were organised by the team captain, with the rest of team present.[3]History[]1985[]In the 1985–1986 school year, one of the Hogwarts Quidditch teams, captained by Orion Amari, held tryouts for the position of Chaser after the team's previous Chaser was injured in a Quidditch friendly. Orion chose four aspiring Chasers for the tryouts, including Jacob's sibling.[4] Jacob's sibling was chosen for their team.[5]1996[]In 1996, Harry Potter, the Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, held trials at the Hogwarts Quidditch pitch in order to appoint students to the team. However, due to Harry's popularity amongst the students, many first year Gryffindors showed up (despite first years rarely making the house team) at the pitch, even along with some Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws who Harry had to dismiss from the pitch for not being in the right house. Harry found the trials very exhausting and difficult, but he eventually appointed Katie Bell, Ginny Weasley and Demelza Robins as Chasers, Jimmy Peakes and Ritchie Coote as Beaters, and Ron Weasley as Keeper, who kept his position from the previous school year. Ron successfully held off competition for the position of Keeper from Cormac McLaggen, as Hermione Granger used the Confundus Charm on McLaggen during the trials, which damaged his performance.[3]Media[]Quidditch Tryouts - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood PrinceQuidditch tryout in 1996Appearances[]Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (First mentioned)Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Mentioned only)Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (First appearance)Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film)Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (video game)PottermoreHarry Potter (website)Harry Potter: Hogwarts MysteryNotes and references[]↑ Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 11 (The Sorting Hat's New Song)↑ Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Chapter 7 (The Sorting Hat)↑ 3.0 3.1 Harry Potter and the Half-BloodHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix part 2 (countdown
Meaning "who is to be destroyed" in Arabic. His name might otherwise be derived from the Germanic elements hraban ("raven") and stein ("stone"), the latter of which became stan in Old English. The Germanic origins of his brother's name might support this theory. The name "Lestrange" echoes the French phrase l'étrange, literally "the strange one." In Old French, estrange means "foreigner".[5] The surname may allude to English journalist Roger L'Estrange, who was known for opposing religious toleration and for being involved in plots against the government of William and Mary, similar to the Lestranges' intolerance about blood purity and involvement in the Death Eaters organisation.Behind the scenes[]During the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, Rabastan was paired with fellow Death Eater Crabbe during the pursuit of the Dumbledore's Army members. He and Crabbe pursued Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Neville Longbottom into the Time Chamber. It is unknown whether Rabastan was the Death Eater whom Harry stunned, or the one whom Hermione knocked into a bell jar, causing the head to continuously age and de-age. It is likely to be the former, as Rabastan is said to be thin while the baby-headed Death Eater's arms are said to be thick, and Rabastan likely would have been recognised and referred to by name in the book (as Dolohov was) if it was he who took his mask off.[6]Interestingly, Sirius Black does not mention him as a member of the gang of Slytherins during his time at Hogwarts, though Rabastan's brother and sister-in-law were. It's possible that he did not attend Hogwarts at the same time as his brother, though it's also likely that Sirius simply did not name the entire group.Appearances[]Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (First appearance) (Appears in flashback(s))Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (First identified as Rabastan Lestrange)Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (video game) (Masked)Pottermore (Appears in flashback(s))Harry Potter: Magic Awakened (Mentioned only)Notes and references[]↑ Both Rabastan and his brother Rodolphus were of-age (17) by the end of the First Wizarding War in 1981, since they were tried on charges of capture and torture of Frank and Alice Longbottom, with no apparent aggravation for the use of underage magic.↑ J.K. "At least twenty small, circular tables were crammed inside it, all surrounded by chintz armchairs and fat little pouffes. Everything was lit with dim, crimson light; the curtains at the windows were all closed, and the many lamps were draped with dark red scarves. It was stiflingly warm, and the fire which was burning under the crowded mantelpiece was giving off a heavy, sickly sort of perfume as it heated a large copper kettle. The shelves running around the circular walls were crammed with dusty-looking feathers, stubs of candles, many packs of tattered playing cards, countless silvery crystal balls and a huge array of teacups"—Description of the classroom[src]The Divination Classroom is where Divination classes are taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is located in the North Tower. It is accessible through a circular trapdoor and is described as looking like a cross between somebody's attic and an old-fashioned teashop. The Divination Staircase leads to this classroom.Appearances[]Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (video game) (GBC version) (Entrance only)Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (video game) (GBC version)Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (First appearance)Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (film)Harry Potter and the Goblet of FireHarry Potter and the Order of the PhoenixHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (film)Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (video game) (Entrance only)Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (video game) (Entrance only)Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (Appears in flashback(s))LEGO Harry Potter: Building the Magical WorldLEGO Harry Potter: Characters of the Magical World (Mentioned only)LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7LEGO Harry PotterPottermoreDivinationProfessors: Sybill Trelawney · FirenzeKnown Seers: Calchas · Cassandra Vablatsky · Cassandra Trelawney · Inigo Imago · Mopsus · Professor Mopsus · Unidentified female Seer · Unidentified male SeerTextbooks: The Dream Oracle · Unfogging the FutureMethods: Astrology · Cartomancy · Tarot cards · Crystal-gazing · Crystal ball · Dream interpretation · Fire-omens · Heptomology · Palmistry · Ornithomancy · TessomancyDivination at Hogwarts: Divination (class) · Divination Classroom · Divination staircase · Sybill Trelawney's office · Classroom 11Hogwarts CastleLocations on the seventh floorAttic · Classroom 7A · Classroom 7B · Classroom 7C · Dark Tower topmost cell · Disused bathroom · Divination Classroom · Fat Lady's Corridor · Filius Flitwick's office · Gryffindor Tower reading room · Gryffindor girls' staircase · Gryffindor Boys' Dormitory · Hall of Hexes · Knights' Room · North Wing · Room of Requirement · Seventh Floor Corridor · Sybill Trelawney's officePortraits, statues and other artwork located on the seventh floorBarnabas the Barmy · Bridget Wenlock · Sir Cadogan · Caged monkey · Edward Rabnott · Elephant · Elizabeth Burke · Fat Lady · Flowering almond trees. 2025-04-10Ronald Weasley at the quidditch pitch getting ready for tryouts The Quidditch tryouts,[1] also known as trials,[2] were the formal processes of forming the school Quidditch teams for the coming seasonal year. Ron successfully held off competition for the position of Keeper from Cormac McLaggen, as Hermione Granger used the Confundus Charm on McLaggen during the trials, which damaged his performance.[3]Media[]Quidditch Tryouts - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood PrinceQuidditch tryout in 1996Appearances[]Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (First mentioned)Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Mentioned only)Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (First appearance)Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (film)Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (video game)PottermoreHarry Potter (website)Harry Potter: Hogwarts MysteryNotes and references[]↑ Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Chapter 11 (The Sorting Hat's New Song)↑ Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Chapter 7 (The Sorting Hat)↑ 3.0 3.1 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood
2025-04-04"At least twenty small, circular tables were crammed inside it, all surrounded by chintz armchairs and fat little pouffes. The Divination Staircase leads to this classroom.Appearances[]Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (video game) (GBC version) (Entrance only)Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (video game) (GBC version)Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (First appearance)Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (film)Harry Potter and the Goblet of FireHarry Potter and the Order of the PhoenixHarry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (film)Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (video game) (Entrance only)Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (video game) (Entrance only)Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (Appears in flashback(s))LEGO Harry Potter: Building the Magical WorldLEGO Harry Potter: Characters of the Magical World (Mentioned only)LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7LEGO Harry PotterPottermoreDivinationProfessors: Sybill Trelawney · FirenzeKnown Seers: Calchas · Cassandra Vablatsky · Cassandra Trelawney · Inigo Imago · Mopsus · Professor Mopsus · Unidentified female Seer · Unidentified male SeerTextbooks: The Dream Oracle · Unfogging the FutureMethods: Astrology · Cartomancy · Tarot cards · Crystal-gazing · Crystal ball · Dream interpretation · Fire-omens · Heptomology · Palmistry · Ornithomancy · TessomancyDivination at Hogwarts: Divination (class) · Divination Classroom · Divination staircase · Sybill Trelawney's office · Classroom 11Hogwarts CastleLocations on the seventh floorAttic · Classroom 7A · Classroom 7B · Classroom 7C · Dark Tower topmost cell · Disused bathroom · Divination Classroom · Fat Lady's Corridor · Filius Flitwick's office · Gryffindor Tower reading room · Gryffindor girls' staircase · Gryffindor Boys' Dormitory · Hall of Hexes · Knights' Room · North Wing · Room of Requirement · Seventh Floor Corridor · Sybill Trelawney's officePortraits, statues and other artwork located on the seventh floorBarnabas the Barmy · Bridget Wenlock · Sir Cadogan · Caged monkey · Edward Rabnott · Elephant · Elizabeth Burke · Fat Lady · Flowering almond trees
